Senior Backend Engineer
The role
Veltro's backend processes analytics events, automation triggers, and integration payloads for over 2,400 SaaS teams in real time. Every millisecond matters. Every data point needs to be correct. We're looking for a senior engineer who cares as much about correctness as they do about performance.
You'll work directly with Anika (our CTO) and a small team of four engineers on the core data infrastructure. You'll have significant ownership, real architectural influence, and a direct line to production within your first two weeks.
What you'll do
- Design and build high-throughput data pipelines that ingest, process, and route billions of events per month with sub-second latency
- Own the reliability and performance of Veltro's core analytics engine, from ingestion through query serving
- Build and maintain the integration framework that connects Veltro to 200+ external services, including real-time webhooks and bidirectional sync
- Work closely with the frontend team to design APIs that make the product feel fast and responsive at every touchpoint
- Participate in on-call rotation (roughly 1 week in 5) and improve our observability and alerting infrastructure
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code review, pair programming, and design discussions
What we're looking for
- 6+ years of backend engineering experience, with at least 2 in a SaaS or data infrastructure context
- Strong proficiency in Go or Rust. We write Go primarily, but we care more about your ability to reason about systems than your language preferences
- Deep experience with event-driven architectures, message queues (Kafka, Pub/Sub), and stream processing
- A track record of designing systems that are correct first, fast second, and maintainable always
- You write clearly. Our team is async-first and we depend on well-written RFCs, incident reports, and architecture decisions
Nice to have
- Experience with ClickHouse, Druid, or other OLAP databases optimized for analytics workloads
- Contributions to open source infrastructure projects
- Experience building multi-tenant SaaS systems with strong data isolation requirements
- Familiarity with SOC 2 compliance requirements and security-first engineering practices
The interview process
We run a focused, respectful process. No take-home projects that eat your weekend. No trick whiteboard questions. We want to understand how you think and how you work, not test whether you've memorized sorting algorithms.
