Design Systems Engineer
The role
Every surface of Veltro's product is built on top of our component library. As our Design Systems Engineer you sit at the intersection of design and engineering, ensuring that the components teams build on top of are accessible, consistent, and well-documented.
This role has significant impact across the entire product engineering team and will work closely with both our Head of Design and frontend engineers.
What you'll do
- Own and evolve the Veltro component library in React with matching Figma component definitions
- Build accessible, performant, and thoroughly documented components that engineering teams can rely on
- Partner with product designers to evolve design tokens, spacing systems, and style guidelines
- Establish contribution guidelines and review processes to scale the design system across the org
- Drive adoption of the design system across the product engineering team
What we're looking for
- 5+ years of frontend engineering experience with a clear focus on design systems or component libraries
- Deep knowledge of accessibility standards including WCAG 2.1 AA requirements
- Strong TypeScript and React skills with experience publishing well-typed component APIs
- Experience writing developer-facing documentation and component API references
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills working across both design and engineering teams
Nice to have
- Experience publishing and maintaining an open source component library used by external developers
- Familiarity with Storybook, Chromatic, or similar component documentation and visual regression tools
- Strong visual design sensibility and attention to pixel-level detail in implementation
